Thousands of Baal Shem Tov Followers Gather for Historic Selichot Prayer in Jerusalem

The grand study hall of the Belz Hasidic dynasty in Jerusalem hosted an unprecedented Selichot prayer event attended by thousands of baalei teshuva (returnees to religious observance) and graduates of the 'Tzohar' organization. This historic gathering, organized by Tzohar - The Center for Rooted Judaism, filled the massive hall to capacity with young men embarking on renewed paths of Torah and mitzvot.

The event opened with an inspiring speech by Rabbi Yitzchak David Grossman, the chief rabbi of Migdal HaEmek and a leading figure in the kiruv (Jewish outreach) movement. Rabbi Grossman emphasized the spiritual greatness of baalei teshuva, noting that they stand in places where even fully righteous individuals cannot. His heartfelt words set the tone for the evening.

The excitement peaked as the Belz Rebbe entered the hall accompanied by Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef, the Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel and spiritual leader of the Shas party, and Rabbi Grossman. Their joint presence symbolized unity and love within the ultra-Orthodox community, especially towards those returning to religious life.

As the Selichot prayers began, the voices of thousands merged into a powerful plea for mercy and acceptance of divine sovereignty. The crowd recited the Thirteen Attributes of Mercy with deep emotion, many shedding tears of sincere repentance in preparation for the Days of Judgment.

Following the prayers, Rabbi Grossman delivered a special encouragement speech, praising the participants' courage and dedication to Torah despite challenges. The event concluded with a moving "Mi Sheberach" prayer led by Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef for the health and longevity of the Belz Rebbe, eliciting a resounding "Amen" from the assembled crowd.

Tzohar organizers expressed great satisfaction with the overwhelming turnout, which exceeded expectations and filled the hall beyond capacity. They noted the event as a breakthrough in the kiruv world, illuminating the Days of Awe with divine closeness and Jewish unity.
