Fake Staff Scam Targets Foreign Patient Using Tel Aviv’s Beilinson Hospital Name

Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva reported a fraud case to police after external parties impersonated hospital staff and collected money from a patient residing abroad. The patient, who required medical treatment in Israel, believed she was arranging care directly with Beilinson Hospital. She transferred funds to individuals claiming to represent the hospital, only to later discover they were impostors.

The hospital became aware of the scam following the patient’s complaint and launched an internal investigation. It was found that the fraudsters used the hospital’s name and the identities of actual staff members to create a false impression of legitimacy. They exploited the patient’s urgent medical needs to demand and receive payments.

Beilinson Hospital confirmed these individuals had no affiliation with the institution and filed a police complaint at the Petah Tikva station on suspicion of fraud and impersonation. The case highlights risks in medical tourism, where foreign patients rely on intermediaries rather than direct hospital contact, increasing vulnerability to scams.

Israeli police are now investigating how the fraudsters obtained the patient’s details, the extent of identity misuse, and whether this is an isolated incident or part of a wider pattern. Beilinson Hospital expressed confidence in the Israeli police to thoroughly pursue the investigation.
