Iranian report claims last-minute U.S. concession on Hormuz passage

An Iranian news report says the United States made last-minute changes to the final agreement on the Strait of Hormuz, in a move that contradicts a post by President Donald Trump. The report, published by the Iranian state-linked Fars news agency and attributed to a knowledgeable source, says the changes were made during talks with Washington.

According to the report, the revised wording explicitly recognizes the sovereignty of Iran and Oman over the strait. Earlier drafts reportedly referred only to Iran’s sovereignty and security arrangements, but the final version says the future management of maritime navigation services in the Strait of Hormuz will be decided jointly by Iran and Oman.

The report says the inclusion of the term “maritime services” effectively amounts to U.S. approval for direct monetary payments to Iran. It also says Iran will exempt ships from payment for only 60 days, describing that period as a temporary discount accepted by Washington. After that, Iran plans to charge commercial vessels crossing the strait for safety, navigation, environmental, and insurance services, with the revenue intended to support the country’s economic development.

At the same time, Iran has reportedly held talks with Oman to secure its cooperation in managing the waterway. The alleged U.S. concession is being presented in Iran as part of a broader effort by Washington to offer Tehran a political and economic “gift” in order to dissuade it from carrying out further military attacks on Israel after the strike in Dahieh the previous night.
