Report: Iran to Charge Ships After 60 Days of Free Passage Through Strait of Hormuz
Iran’s Fars news agency reported, citing an informed source, that the final understanding on an agreement has recognized Iran’s rights over the Strait of Hormuz. According to the source, the last moments of the negotiations saw the memorandum of understanding revised to clearly and explicitly emphasize the sovereignty of Iran and Oman over the strait.
The source said the future management of maritime services in the Strait of Hormuz will be determined by Iran and Oman. He also said that ships would be allowed to pass freely through the waterway for 60 days, after which Iran would begin collecting payment from vessels seeking to transit the strait.
