Double Weather Warning Issued for Israel: Dangerous Sea Conditions and Extreme Heat

Israel’s Meteorological Service has issued two separate warnings for the coming hours, citing hazardous conditions both along the Mediterranean coast and in the eastern and southern parts of the country. Officials urged the public to take extra precautions as the weather poses risks to bathers, travelers, workers, and vulnerable residents.

An orange warning is in effect for very rough and dangerous Mediterranean seas, with waves expected to reach 80 to 130 centimeters. Forecasters said the conditions could continue even after the warning period ends. The risks include drowning from strong waves and currents, being swept quickly from shallow water into deep water, injuries from rocks or other objects moved by the surf, and the overturning or loosening of small boats and anchors. People were told to follow lifeguards and inspectors, enter the water only in authorized areas, and stay off piers and breakwaters.

A yellow warning for severe heat will run from 13:00 to 20:00 in the Beit She'an Valley, the Kinneret Valley, the Jordan Valley, South Judean Desert, the Dead Sea area, and the Arava. Authorities warned of dehydration and heatstroke, especially for people with chronic illnesses, older adults, and those receiving medical treatment. Outdoor workers may face especially difficult conditions, and there could also be brief disruptions to power networks and electricity supply due to the load.

The public was advised to stay in shaded, ventilated or air-conditioned places during peak heat, drink plenty of water, wear a wide-brimmed hat and light clothing when going outside, and drivers should stop periodically to cool down. Officials also stressed that no person, child, or animal should ever be left in a closed, non-air-conditioned vehicle, even briefly, and that families and neighbors should check on elderly and isolated residents.
