IDF Kills Senior Hezbollah Commander in South Lebanon After Terror Attack

The story · English

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a targeted strike on Saturday in the Dir al-Zahrani area of southern Lebanon, killing Abu Hassan Alaa, a senior commander in Hezbollah's "Badr" unit. This operation was a direct response to a recent terrorist attack by Hezbollah against IDF forces operating in the security zone. Abu Hassan Alaa was actively involved in orchestrating multiple terror attacks against Israeli forces, including the deployment of explosive drones and planning other hostile operations. Over recent years, he commanded several combat sectors within Hezbollah and was implicated in attacks against both IDF soldiers and Israeli civilians.

The elimination of Abu Hassan Alaa significantly disrupts the command capabilities of Hezbollah's Badr unit. This strike follows the killing of Ali Samir Al-Hajj Hassan, a battalion commander in Hezbollah's "Radwan Force," who was killed at his base in Ansar. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Katz stated, "No account will remain open," emphasizing a firm policy to respond decisively to any attacks on Israeli security forces or civilians. The IDF affirmed its commitment to preventing Hezbollah from threatening Israeli citizens and soldiers and to continue efforts to neutralize such threats.

This incident occurs amid ongoing tensions and extensive Israeli military activity in southern Lebanon aimed at dismantling terror infrastructures and protecting Israeli forces and civilians. The IDF currently maintains a siege on dozens of Hezbollah operatives and senior Iranian officials trapped in the Ali Al-Taher ridge tunnel system. Concurrently, the U.S. State Department issued a strong statement holding Hezbollah fully responsible for the Israeli military presence in Lebanon, describing the group as the main obstacle to Lebanon's economic recovery. While the Trump administration has criticized Defense Minister Katz's remarks about Israel's continued presence in southern Lebanon, it underscored Hezbollah's responsibility for the situation.
