Omri Peretz, suspected of involvement in the murder of Eldar Dayan, has broken his silence and provided his version to investigators, denying any role in the killing. Police are currently examining suspicions of abandoning an injured person and are awaiting the autopsy report, which could significantly influence the direction of the investigation.
According to police information not yet publicly disclosed, three friends met with members of a second group to conduct a joint transaction, details of which remain confidential. A violent altercation broke out, escalating into an attempted vehicular assault and deliberate damage to the car carrying Dayan, Peretz, and Barberman. The three then fled toward a Paz gas station near the Yarkon Junction in Petah Tikva.
Authorities have upgraded the charges against the suspects to include involvement in murder. However, if the investigation reaches a dead end regarding the two suspects, and the forensic findings confirm murder, investigators may revisit others involved in the initial fight where Dayan was reportedly severely beaten.
Police are also considering whether Dayan, who appeared injured upon arriving at the gas station and later fled, collapsed and died at the scene as a result of the violent fight. The autopsy results, expected in the coming days, are anticipated to shed light on the case.
On Wednesday, suspects Peretz and Barberman will appear again before the Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court for a hearing. Depending on the emerging details, police may seek to extend their detention or, if suspicions lessen, release them to house arrest under restrictive conditions.
