Rabbi Steinman backs fund for 101 orphaned brides and grooms marrying this month

As the month of Sivan brings many celebrations, 101 orphaned brides and grooms are facing weddings without parents and with heavy financial pressure. The need was identified after urgent requests reached the rabbinic administrators of Kupat Ha'ir, who compiled a special list of couples needing help with wedding costs.

Kupat Ha'ir leaders presented the full figures to Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Shmuel Steinman, who agreed to place his full support behind a dedicated relief fund for the cause. The charity said the list includes especially difficult cases, among them young people who lost parents in sudden tragedies, large families now led by widowed mothers, and some couples in which both the bride and groom are orphans.

Each request was reviewed individually by rabbis and halachic authorities, who ruled that the applicants meet the criteria for public assistance so they can marry with dignity. The organization said the pain is not only emotional on the wedding day, but also practical, because there is no parent to cover the basic and ongoing expenses of starting a home.

In the last days of Sivan, Kupat Ha'ir renewed its appeal to the public to help cover the costs, noting that most of the weddings have already taken place but urgent funding is still needed. Rabbi Steinman issued a handwritten blessing for donors who give 1,010 shekels, 10 shekels for each of the 101 couples, saying that those who contribute will be sure that God fulfills their wishes for good in both spiritual and material matters and that their prayers will be accepted gladly.
