Kupa Ha'ir says 69 orphaned brides and grooms are set to marry during the Hebrew month of Tammuz and need help covering the heavy costs of establishing a home. The organization said the larger group includes 869 orphaned boys and girls who are facing major wedding expenses without parental support.
According to the appeal, each of the 69 couples is starting married life with no natural family safety net, and their situations reflect pain, loss, and financial hardship. The charity said public support is needed so they can marry with dignity and meet the costs of the wedding itself.
Kupa Ha'ir rabbis brought the matter to Rabbi David Cohen, head of the yeshiva, describing the urgent need to fund the weddings. After hearing about the situation, Cohen issued a special call for the public to help and set a suggested contribution of 10 shekels per orphaned couple, for a total donation of 690 shekels.
In a handwritten blessing for donors, Cohen wrote: "All those who donate 690 shekels to 69 orphans who are getting married in Tamuz 5786 and bring satisfaction in Heaven, measure for measure, will merit Jewish satisfaction from all their descendants, and wonderful divine help in raising children." The campaign is meant to raise enough money to let the couples begin married life in comfort.
