Rabbi Moshe Hillel Hirsch Leads Emergency Fundraising for 93 Orphan Weddings in August

The charitable organization Kuppat Ha'ir has identified 93 orphans preparing to marry in the Hebrew month of Av 5786 (July-August 2026), prompting an urgent fundraising campaign to support their wedding expenses. While many weddings take place nightly across ultra-Orthodox communities in Israel, these orphans face significant financial challenges, lacking family support to cover costly ceremonies, bridal attire, and household essentials.

Rabbi Moshe Hillel Hirsch, the revered spiritual leader of the Slabodka Yeshiva and a prominent community figure, was deeply moved by the scope of need. He convened an emergency meeting at his home to organize a comprehensive aid effort. Rabbi Hirsch personally penned and recorded a heartfelt appeal to the public, urging donations of 930 shekels total, or 10 shekels per orphan, to help cover the expenses of all 93 weddings.

In his message, Rabbi Hirsch emphasized the dignity of these orphans, stating that those who "guard the orphans from shame and distress" will be rewarded in kind and protected from harm during the upcoming Bein Hazmanim period. He also pledged to pray for all contributors at the start of Elul, asking for abundant success both spiritually and materially in the coming year.

Kuppat Ha'ir is facilitating donations to ensure each orphan receives meaningful support as they establish new homes. The campaign highlights the community’s commitment to caring for vulnerable members and preserving their honor during significant life milestones.
