The story · English

On Tuesday night, volunteers from the Etzion-Yehuda police rescue unit, assisted by the security department of the Etzion Regional Council, conducted a search for a missing family in the Gush Etzion area. The family, consisting of a mother and eight children aged 3 to 18 from Beitar Illit, had lost contact after setting out on a hike near Tekoa in eastern Gush Etzion earlier that afternoon. Concern grew as hours passed without communication, prompting relatives to notify the Israeli police of the serious concern that the family might be lost.

The rescue volunteers launched an intensive search operation throughout the evening. Shortly before the report, a volunteer spotted the family arriving safely at the settlement of Nokdim. Following the incident, the rescue unit emphasized several safety recommendations for hikers, including planning routes suitable for all ages and abilities, carrying at least four liters of water per person, following instructions from nature and security officials, informing others about the planned route and expected return time, using updated maps and marked trails only, and equipping themselves with appropriate clothing, comfortable footwear, sun protection, flashlights, and extra phone batteries.

The successful rescue highlights the importance of preparedness and communication during outdoor activities in the region, especially as daylight hours wane.
