Israeli Mother and Eight Children Found Safe After Lost Hiking in Gush Etzion

Volunteers from the Etzion-Yehuda police rescue unit located a mother and her eight children from Beitar Illit after they lost contact during a hike near Tekoa in eastern Gush Etzion. The family, children aged 3 to 18, went hiking in the afternoon but failed to communicate for several hours. Concerned relatives reported them missing to the Israeli police at nightfall, prompting a large-scale search operation.

The rescue team, assisted by the Gush Etzion Regional Council's security department, conducted extensive searches until one volunteer spotted the family arriving safely at the nearby settlement of Nokdim. The incident concluded without injuries.

Police highlighted that the "bein hazmanim" period sees a significant rise in hikers and urged the public to prepare adequately before outdoor activities. Recommendations include selecting age-appropriate routes, carrying at least four liters of water per person, informing family or friends of planned routes and expected return times, and completing hikes before dark. They also advised using updated maps, staying on marked trails, wearing suitable clothing and footwear, and bringing hats, sunscreen, flashlights, and backup phone batteries.

Given current security concerns, authorities stressed the importance of following instructions from security forces and the IDF regarding permitted hiking areas. In emergencies, the public is instructed to call the police emergency number 100 or move to a high, safe location with phone reception if needed.
