Israeli Rescue Unit Saves Hikers in Complex Operations at Yagur and Kziv Streams

Volunteers from the Galil-Carmel Rescue Unit of the Israeli Police were deployed on Wednesday evening to conduct two complex rescue operations simultaneously in the Yagur and Kziv streams. The unit reported a sharp increase in hikers due to the "Bein Hazmanim" vacation period for yeshiva students, leading to heightened alertness and readiness among rescue teams. Authorities urged the public to act responsibly and avoid unnecessary risks.

In the first incident at Yagur Stream, a group of nine hikers, including a father and his three children, lost their way on the marked red trail near the cliffs. The group ran out of water, and after an initial emergency call, contact was lost. Rescue teams responded swiftly, navigating difficult terrain to locate and assist the hikers.

The second incident involved a 42-year-old female hiker who slipped and fell near a spring inside the canyon of Kziv Stream. She sustained severe injuries and limb deformities. Rescue teams, including paramedics from United Hatzalah and Magen David Adom, conducted a challenging stretcher evacuation under tough conditions.

Galil-Carmel Rescue Unit commander Ziv Demeter emphasized the importance of preparation and caution, advising hikers to plan routes carefully, carry sufficient water, keep phones charged, and avoid straying from marked trails or hiking during extreme heat. He reminded those in distress to immediately call the police emergency number 100 for assistance rather than waiting.

The unit highlighted the heavy burden on volunteers who repeatedly leave work and home to save lives, stressing that unnecessary risks endanger both hikers and rescuers.
