US CENTCOM Seeks Unconventional Strategies to Pressure Iran Amid Stalemate

The story · English

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has issued an unprecedented and secretive request to a broad group of analysts, urging them to devise innovative and unconventional methods to pressure and punish Iran. This move, revealed by CNN, reflects a strategic deadlock following the failure of sanctions and extensive airstrikes to compel Tehran to change its behavior. The directive comes after weeks of intensified US military strikes targeting Iranian naval capabilities and air defense systems, with over 50,000 American troops deployed in the region.

Despite carefully prepared plans such as "Mount Kook" to strike fortified nuclear facilities, experts warn that deeply buried sites would survive conventional bombs. Proposals for limited ground operations, like seizing Kharg Island or uranium stockpiles, were rejected due to the risk of prolonged conflict. Political and moral concerns also ruled out attacks on civilian infrastructure. Recently, the US increased its military presence by deploying advanced F-16CJ Block 50 fighter jets equipped to neutralize Iranian radar and air defenses, aiming to establish deep air corridors into Iranian territory.

The campaign, named "Operation Harry's Roar," has already cost four American soldiers their lives, including Second Lieutenant Tyler James Pihan and Private Isabella Gonzalez. An Iranian attack in Jordan also resulted in casualties. CENTCOM defended the approach, emphasizing direct consultations between commanders and analysts regardless of rank. The unusual request underscores President Trump's determination to force Iran to negotiate on American terms without igniting a wider regional war.

US strikes have continued for 12 consecutive nights, targeting Iranian military assets such as missile storage, unmanned aerial vehicles, coastal surveillance sites, and air defense systems. The stated goal is to degrade Iran's ability to attack civilian and commercial shipping in international waterways. However, the strategic challenge remains acute as regional powers like Egypt and Jordan avoid direct confrontation, limiting US options and increasing pressure to find creative solutions.

Meanwhile, Iranian intelligence estimates indicate that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is resolutely pursuing a nuclear warhead, exploiting regional chaos. Tehran has been relocating thousands of sensitive centrifuges into the heavily fortified underground "Mount Kook" complex, which has so far evaded Israeli and American strikes. CENTCOM's extraordinary call for innovative pressure tactics marks a critical turning point in the US-Iran confrontation, raising the question of whether Washington can achieve its objectives without triggering a full-scale war or if the stalemate will escalate tensions across the Middle East.
