The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) is actively seeking innovative and unconventional military strategies to increase pressure on Iran, following an internal email sent to a large group of analysts, CNN reported on Monday. This move comes after recent air campaigns ordered by President Donald Trump failed to compel Iran to agree to a deal. The email, sent last Wednesday by a senior intelligence officer at CENTCOM, invited brainstorming for alternative solutions, reflecting the limited options available to the administration.

President Trump has frequently threatened Iran with severe military action, including a recent warning of attacks "on a scale of horror, power, and military strength not seen since World War II." However, he later canceled planned strikes at the request of Iran and Gulf states, announcing a new deal concerning the Strait of Hormuz and promising negotiations on Iran’s nuclear disarmament. Trump stated that Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Iran requested the cancellation to avoid escalation.

CENTCOM officials, including spokesman Captain Timothy Hawkins, emphasized the command’s history of innovative thinking and the leadership of Admiral Brad Cooper in encouraging ideas from all ranks. Concerns persist over dwindling missile inventories and the risks of civilian casualties or American troop losses in a potential ground operation. General Dan McNeill acknowledged that air power alone would not achieve the administration’s goals, prompting the search for creative alternatives that balance rapid victory with avoiding ground troop deployment.

Reports also highlight behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts by Gulf states, particularly Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who reportedly urged Trump to cancel strikes to prevent retaliatory attacks on Gulf energy infrastructure. Qatar, the UAE, Turkey, and Pakistan have also been involved in promoting de-escalation and resuming negotiations. Trump indicated that formal talks with Iran would begin imminently, aiming to save lives and reach a peaceful resolution.
