US Launches Massive Strikes on Dozens of Iranian Military Targets Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

The US Central Command announced a large-scale, intense wave of airstrikes overnight targeting dozens of strategic Revolutionary Guard sites across Iran. This military campaign, ongoing for 12 consecutive nights, aims to drastically reduce threats against over 50,000 US troops stationed in the Middle East and to protect vital maritime trade routes and Gulf countries. The strikes hit military headquarters, missile and drone facilities, coastal defense sites, and naval capabilities.

The escalation follows a failed Iranian ballistic missile attack on US forces in the region. Concurrently, Iran's Revolutionary Guards launched missile strikes near Abadan and air attacks around Qeshm Island, with explosions reported in Bushehr, Ahvaz, and Kish Island. Iranian state TV confirmed earlier targeting of a US base in Jordan. Jordanian forces intercepted five missiles launched from Iran, while Israel intercepted drones launched by pro-Iranian militias from Iraq near the Jordanian border.

In a related development, US and Saudi strikes in Iraq reportedly killed about 20 Iranian advisors, including Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps members and technical consultants. The conflict has also expanded to the maritime domain, with British maritime security firm Ambrey reporting drone attacks on a US gas tanker in Egypt's Damietta port, causing fires but no casualties. US President Donald Trump commented on the incident, indicating a need to "hit them a little."

Amid these tensions, Saudi Arabia is spearheading efforts to form an international coalition to protect shipping lanes in the Red Sea from Houthi attacks, with ongoing talks involving dozens of countries. The recent collapse of the US-Iran ceasefire has led to renewed confrontations by Tehran-backed groups across the Middle East, complicating the security situation in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, and Jordan, and broadening the conflict beyond the Persian Gulf.

US forces employed advanced fighter jets, naval vessels, and drones in the strikes, aiming for precise military targets while minimizing civilian harm. The Central Command stated the operation's goal is to degrade Iran's ability to conduct attacks against civilian and commercial vessels in international waters.
