Rescue Team Searches for Father and Six Children Missing in Dead Sea Area Hike

The story · English

A father and his six children, aged 9 to 19, went missing during a hike in the Nahal Gov area near the Dead Sea on Monday morning. The family left the city of Ovot at 8:00 a.m., equipped with water, hats, and hiking shoes. They sent messages to the mother, who did not accompany them, reporting at 9:30 a.m. that they had started the trail and again at 11:30 a.m. saying they were exhausted from the intense heat and hoped to finish the hike within half an hour. After that message, contact was lost.

Following the loss of communication, the mother alerted the Arava Rescue Unit, whose volunteers from the communities of Hazeva and Idan were dispatched urgently to Nahal Gov. The rescue teams split into two groups to search the area, one starting from the upper part of the stream and the other from the lower part. The search operation is ongoing as rescuers work to locate and assist the family amid the challenging heat conditions.

The incident highlights the dangers of hiking in extreme temperatures in the Dead Sea region and the swift response by local rescue teams to emergencies in remote areas.
