Ahead of the upcoming elections, United Torah Judaism (UTJ) has proposed a coordinated public debate with the Likud party to address the declining support for ultra-Orthodox parties. This strategy aims to counter voter disappointment within the Haredi community, which stems from perceived failures by their representatives to protect their economic interests, especially amid sanctions affecting them.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has publicly criticized draft evasion among Haredim, stating in a closed discussion that those who do not study Torah will either enlist or face imprisonment. Despite this tough rhetoric, behind the scenes there is coordination between Likud and UTJ to manage election strategies. A senior UTJ official recently approached a Likud counterpart with the idea of a planned public confrontation to benefit both sides.

Meanwhile, the Knesset Finance Committee is set to convene during the recess to approve the transfer of hundreds of millions of shekels to Haredi sectors. The budget includes 69 million shekels for Haredi education, 54 million for Haredi kindergartens, 26 million to prevent dropout from yeshivas, 13 million for Haredi Jewish culture, and 16 million for after-school programs in exempt institutions. This financial package is seen as a political move by Netanyahu to differentiate Likud from its coalition partners and to soften public focus on the contentious issues during the election campaign.

Netanyahu has also distanced himself from statements by Rabbi Dov Lando, who criticized soldiers from the Religious Zionist community, signaling a political effort to separate Likud from other right-wing factions. The overall approach appears to be delivering substantial funds to the Haredi community before elections while publicly emphasizing a stricter stance on military service and social integration.
