Mir Yeshiva Head Urges Public to Support Orphan Bride Facing Dire Hardships

The story · English

Rabbi Yitzchak Azarahi, head of the Mir Yeshiva, recently shared with his students his deep distress over a tragic case involving a young orphaned woman from a prominent family. The woman lost her parents early in life; her parents divorced when she was three, and her mother passed away four years ago, leaving her completely alone. Rabbi Azarahi described how she has carried the burden of her losses entirely by herself, with no one to share her grief or support her.

Moved profoundly by the story, Rabbi Azarahi could not remain indifferent and took action in three stages: first, he thoroughly investigated the details of her situation; second, he personally participated in the mitzvah of supporting her; and third, he issued an emotional public appeal. He emphasized that this is not just his personal feeling but a collective responsibility, stating, "I feel that I cannot, and neither can you, remain indifferent to this great matter."

The rabbi also highlighted a hopeful development: the young woman is now engaged and will marry in three weeks, a blessing after years of loneliness. However, he stressed the harsh reality that she lacks basic necessities such as housing and clothing needed for marriage. Rabbi Azarahi posed a poignant question to the community about who bears responsibility for this living orphan and answered that it is incumbent upon each person, including himself, to do everything possible to help her return to a normal life.

Concluding his appeal, Rabbi Azarahi called on everyone to participate in this special mitzvah of supporting an orphan bride, promising that the reward for such kindness is assured. His heartfelt plea seeks to mobilize communal support to provide the young woman with the essentials for her new life.
