Israeli Orphan Couple Prepares to Build New Life Amid Urgent Community Support Appeal

After the sudden death of her father, 16-year-old Tzipi's life, already marked by neglect and hardship, collapsed completely. Her mother, unable to cope, abandoned the family, leaving Tzipi and her siblings to be scattered among foster homes. Taken in by one of her teachers, Tzipi experienced a glimpse of normalcy and now dreams of building a stable home where her children will not face the same struggles.

Tzipi's fiancé, Yosef, shares a similarly painful past. Orphaned at five in Russia during a severe snowstorm, Yosef endured a difficult immigration to Israel and a harsh upbringing with his widowed mother. Despite these challenges, he persevered academically and personally. Together, they represent one of 73 orphaned couples preparing to marry this month, all facing severe financial hardship and lacking family support.

Rabbi Shraga Steinman, head of the yeshiva, has issued a heartfelt call for donations during the month of Av, when these weddings take place. He urges the public to contribute a symbolic 10 shekels per orphan to help cover wedding expenses and bring joy to these young couples. Rabbi Steinman emphasizes the spiritual merit of supporting orphans and promises blessings for donors and the newlyweds.

The community has already exhausted its resources supporting Tzipi's siblings in foster care, making external assistance critical. The appeal highlights the urgent need to help these 73 couples start their married lives with dignity and hope, turning their painful pasts into a foundation for a better future.
