Nighttime Scare Near the Sea of Galilee as 4 Are Reportedly Bitten by Jackals
An unusual overnight incident near the Sea of Galilee left nine people injured, apparently after being bitten by jackals. Magen David Adom teams were dispatched to Doga Beach, where they treated the victims and assessed their condition.
Seven injured people were evacuated to the North Medical Center in Poria, all in mild condition. Four of those taken to the hospital had bite marks, including a 12-year-old girl, two men about 35, and a woman about 40.
Three other lightly wounded people were evacuated from the scene, while two more were treated on site by MDA medics and did not need hospital care. The report was published on June 13, 2026, at 07:37.
The incident comes amid growing concern in northern Israel over rabies cases reported by the Health Ministry since the start of 2026. The ministry says at least 16 infected-animal sightings have been documented in the north this year, with rabid jackals found in communities near the Sea of Galilee and the Jordan Valley, including Degania Bet, Ashdot Yaakov Meuhad, Menahemia, as well as in Arbel, Rosh Pina, Kadita, Ein Dor, agricultural areas in the Upper Galilee near Ghajar, Neot Mordechai and She'ar Yashuv, and in the Beit She'an Valley communities of Neve Ur, Sde Eliyahu and Yarden.
