Man Arrested for Arson in Residential Building After Bicycle Theft in Bat Yam

A 34-year-old man from central Israel was indicted for arson after setting fire to a storage room in a residential building in Bat Yam, reportedly out of anger over the theft of his bicycle. The incident occurred late at night on July 21, when police received a report of a fire in the building on Herzl Street. Security camera footage showed two suspects attempting to break into the storage room door in the building's underground parking lot. When they failed to open the door, one suspect poured an accelerant on the door and nearby floor and ignited it, causing a large fire that quickly spread throughout the parking area. The suspects fled the scene, but the main suspect, a local resident, was arrested and subjected to intensive questioning. His detention was extended multiple times as investigators gathered strong evidence linking him to serious offenses including arson, attempted burglary, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
