The Pentagon has awarded Lockheed Martin a massive contract worth up to $58.6 billion to produce Patriot missile interceptors from 2026 to 2032. This framework agreement extends a previous contract signed in April and reflects the Trump administration's push for defense companies to expand production lines rather than prioritize shareholder profits. Concurrently, the Pentagon is advancing similar deals with RTX to significantly increase production of Tomahawk cruise missiles.

Lockheed Martin revealed its business and operational plans for the current decade, aiming to triple the production capacity of PAC-3 MSE interceptors by the end of the 2020s to approximately 2,000 missiles annually. The workforce at its Arkansas facility will grow by about 50%, supported by an $8 to $9 billion investment through 2030 to upgrade more than 20 manufacturing sites across the United States.

According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the US military currently has fewer than 1,000 Patriot interceptors and under 250 THAAD interceptors, two key air defense systems recently deployed extensively in the Middle East and Ukraine. This expansion effort responds to escalating threats, particularly amid rising tensions with Iran.
