75-Year-Old Woman Indicted for Negligent Deaths of Two Israeli Border Police Officers in Fatal Road Crash

The story · English

The prosecution filed charges on Wednesday against 75-year-old Halin Sahyak from Molidat for causing the deaths of two Israeli Border Police officers, Staff Sergeants Gal Yosef and Tomer Eliyahu Klipi, in a traffic accident on Highway 90. The fatal collision occurred on the morning of Saturday, August 16, 2025, near the Shde Eliezer junction in the Hula Valley. Yosef, 23, and Klipi, 24, both serving in the Northern Border Police, were riding motorcycles when Sahyak, driving a private vehicle with her partner as a passenger, ignored a stop sign and stop line, entered the junction, and turned left, blocking their path. The officers collided forcefully with her car and died at the scene.

Paramedic Eden Gigi reported that both motorcycles caught fire, and the car sustained severe front-end damage with a shattered windshield. Sahyak’s passenger was lightly injured. The indictment, submitted by Attorney Naama Gutman Zakai from the Northern District Prosecutor’s Office, charges Sahyak with two counts of negligent homicide, reckless driving, causing damage to persons and property, and failure to obey a stop sign.

Staff Sergeant Gal Yosef from Afula had recently married three weeks before the accident and left behind a wife, parents, and two sisters. He served as a permanent soldier and team commander in the Border Police. Staff Sergeant Tomer Eliyahu Klipi from Kfar Baruch served alongside Yosef for seven years, recently taking command of a unit team and excelling as a professional investigator. Both officers were well-regarded for their dedication and responsibility toward their comrades. The case is now before the traffic court in Safed.
