Woman Killed in Head-On Crash in Northern Israel, Three Others Hurt
A 58-year-old woman was killed on Tuesday in a severe head-on collision between two vehicles on Route 89, between Tzuriel in the Western Galilee and Hurfeish in the Upper Galilee. Magen David Adom teams evacuated her to the Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya in critical condition, but doctors there were forced to pronounce her dead. Another woman was moderately hurt, and two more people were lightly injured.
Police opened an investigation into the circumstances of the crash and began collecting evidence. Drivers were asked to avoid the area. MDA paramedic Amir Bohadana said from the scene, "It was a very severe head-on traffic accident. The two vehicles on the shoulder caught fire. The four injured were near the vehicles after some got out on their own and some were rescued by bystanders who were there." He said the seriously injured woman was treated at the scene and taken by MDA intensive care ambulance in unstable condition, while the other three were evacuated in regular ambulances.
The fatal crash came amid a deadly stretch on Israel's roads. On Monday, two men about 25 years old were killed in an motorcycle crash on Route 65 near the Golani Interchange after being critically injured. Earlier that day, a man about 50 riding a motorcycle was killed when hit by a vehicle on the Ayalon Highway near the Shalom Interchange. In both cases, MDA crews pronounced the victims dead at the scene.
