TikTok Sets Strict Rules to Combat Election Misinformation Ahead of Israel's October Vote

Ahead of Israel's 26th Knesset elections on October 27, TikTok has introduced dedicated guidelines for politicians and public figures to uphold platform integrity and protect users. The company announced a ban on paid political promotions and intensified enforcement against misinformation and AI-generated deceptive content that could disrupt voting or election outcomes. TikTok established a specialized task force collaborating with monitoring technologies, fact-checkers, and the Central Elections Committee to oversee compliance.

The platform requires AI-generated realistic content to be clearly labeled and employs detection mechanisms to remove harmful material, even if marked. Government, political party, and politician accounts are prohibited from using advertising or monetization tools, including paying creators for political promotion. TikTok also launched an in-app election center providing official information from the Central Elections Committee about voting dates, procedures, and tools to identify misinformation.

Users engaging with election-related content will be directed to this information hub. Enforcement combines monitoring technology and thousands of safety personnel, working with over 20 fact-checking organizations globally. In Israel, TikTok partners with Reuters to verify content accuracy and enforce policies. According to TikTok's Q1 2026 community enforcement report, 551,341 videos violating election integrity, civic honesty, and AI use policies were removed in Israel.
