Israeli Election Committee Seeks Social Media Pledges to Prevent Foreign Influence

The Central Elections Committee of Israel is preparing to require Israeli branches of major social media platforms to sign a pledge aimed at preventing foreign interference in the upcoming elections. Reported on Monday by Kan News, the agreement will ask these companies to clearly label content generated by artificial intelligence, actively combat bot networks, and identify influence operations funded by foreign states or local entities.

The committee is currently in talks with leading tech firms including Google, Meta, Microsoft, TikTok, X, Telegram, and OpenAI. Among these, discussions with TikTok appear to be the most advanced, though the committee hopes to secure identical commitments from all involved parties. In recent weeks, negotiations with Google, Microsoft, and Meta have intensified, with these companies being urged to consider the consequences of refusing to sign a pact that their major competitors might endorse.
