The story · English

Rafael Advanced Defense Systems has marked a global milestone by delivering the 1,000th Typhoon remote-controlled naval weapon system, the most widely used system of its kind worldwide. Typhoon systems are currently integrated into various naval platforms across 25 navies, including those of the United States, Canada, and Australia, providing operational solutions for a broad range of maritime threats. In Israel, Typhoon and Mini-Typhoon systems have been operational in the Israeli Navy since 2000.

As part of ongoing cooperation, Rafael recently supplied the Israeli Navy with 30mm Typhoon weapon stations to enhance the defensive and offensive capabilities of its operational vessels, including Saar 6 corvettes. Additional systems are expected to be deployed in the coming years to replace older equipment and incorporate new Mini-Typhoon units.

The Typhoon system addresses diverse maritime threats, including surface and aerial targets, demonstrating effective performance against small, fast, and low-signature threats such as drones and UAVs. It features advanced fire control and tracking capabilities for rapid detection, identification, and interception. The system supports high-capacity ammunition magazines, quick switching between ammunition types, and automatic functions that reduce operator workload and response times. It also accommodates advanced munitions like Air Burst and High-Explosive Proximity rounds, enhancing its effectiveness against both air and sea threats.

Designed with a modular mission-based architecture, the Typhoon system offers operational flexibility and rapid adaptation to various ship classes and user requirements. Rafael CEO Yoav Turgeman emphasized the system's strategic importance amid increasingly congested and threatened maritime environments, highlighting its role in protecting vital shipping routes and countering advanced threats. He affirmed Rafael's commitment to developing solutions that strengthen naval freedom of action, defense, and superiority globally and in Israel.

Rafael's maritime portfolio includes remote-controlled weapon systems, air defense, electronic warfare, electro-optical systems, communications, command and control, and precision naval missiles. Key systems in service worldwide include Typhoon, Naval Dome, Sea Breaker, and Naval Spike.
