Five Israeli gas stations that became must-stop travel destinations

What used to be a quick fuel stop has evolved in Israel into a full travel experience. Many gas stations now combine restaurants, cafés, shops, rest areas, and even launch points for trips, making them gathering spots for cyclists, hikers, families on vacation, soldiers heading home on weekends, and friends arranging a familiar meeting point. The article highlights five stations or complexes that are worth stopping for, and in some cases visiting in their own right.

At Tzomet Tzemach, the gateway to the Sea of Galilee, the adjacent “Mall HaKinneret” has become part of the lake vacation itself. Visitors stock up for camping, eat before reaching the beach, finish last-minute shopping, and often stop there more than once during a holiday. The site is especially busy on weekends and holidays, and the nearby renovated Tzemach Beach is just across the road.

In Nitzanei Oz, near Highway 6, Emek Hefer, the Alexander Stream, and the Sharon beaches, a newer complex has quickly become a key stop for coffee, refreshments, and pre-trip meetups. It serves cyclists and families heading to nature trails, filling a gap left by the lack of convenient stops in the area outside the toll road.

M HaDerech on the coastal highway has grown from a school-trip stop into a small leisure center with restaurants, cafés, shops, parking, and other services. Because some businesses stay open on Saturdays, it draws especially large crowds on weekends. For years it also hosted evening entertainment, including a second-floor club, while the tenants changed over time.

Latrun has long been a meeting point for travelers, bike riders, groups, soldiers, and families on the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv corridor. Its appeal comes not only from food and coffee but also from nearby attractions including Yad La-Shiryon, Latrun Monastery, the winery, Canada Park, and regional hiking routes. Yotvata, on the road to Eilat, is similarly a destination of its own, with a visitor center, Yotvata Park, the famous dairy shop, a restaurant, and seating areas, and many families pair the stop with nearby Hai-Bar Yotvata or Timna Park.
