Administrative Detainee Requests Permission to Attend Fallen Comrade's Funeral in West Bank

The story · English

Tal Yinon Dradik, an administrative detainee held under an order issued by Central Command Chief Aviv Blot, has urgently requested to be released temporarily to attend the funeral of his close friend and fellow soldier, Benyahu Malt, who was killed in action. Dradik, currently on his 19th day of a hunger strike, submitted the plea through lawyers from the Honenu organization while detained at the Russian Compound prison in Jerusalem. In a handwritten letter, he emphasized the urgency of his request to participate in the funeral of his "dear brother and Israeli hero" Benyahu Malt.

Despite efforts by senior Israeli defense officials over the past week to assist Dradik and propose alternatives to his detention at the Russian Compound, he has refused all offers. Dradik is suspected of serious offenses, which led to the administrative detention order issued by Aviv Blot, the Central Command chief. The case highlights ongoing tensions surrounding administrative detentions and detainees' rights in Israel.
