Google Integrates Gemini AI to Enhance Waze Navigation Experience

Google has started incorporating new AI capabilities from Gemini into its Waze navigation app to offer a smarter and more personalized driving experience. The most notable feature introduced is the "less talking" mode, which reduces the number of voice instructions during trips by providing shorter, clearer directions instead of multiple reminders before each turn, while still keeping navigation audible.

Another key update is personalized navigation that learns user driving preferences, such as favoring highways or avoiding side streets, and suggests routes accordingly. This feature can be enabled through privacy and personalization settings. However, not all new features are fully operational yet. The smart voice reporting, designed to allow free-form spoken reports of road hazards, is not yet stable for all users.

Additionally, the AI-based motorcycle mode is currently available only in select countries, and the advanced voice search is limited to beta testers. Consequently, despite the broad announcement, the most noticeable improvement for most users at this stage remains the less talkative navigation mode.
