Greece is poised to approve one of its largest arms procurement deals, valued at approximately €3 billion, involving advanced Israeli defense systems. The Greek National Security Council is expected to authorize the acquisition of Rafael-made air defense systems, including the Iron Dome (Kela David) and Spyder, as well as the Barak MX missile system developed by Israel Aerospace Industries.

In addition to these missile defense platforms, sources told the Greek newspaper Kathimerini that the deal includes purchases of V-BAT drones for army simulation activities, Heron unmanned aerial vehicles for the air force, Victor-class submarines for special forces, and new C-390 Millennium transport aircraft. This approval by the KYSEA council represents the final official step before contract signing and implementation of Greece's largest recent military procurement program.

The initiative aims to protect critical infrastructure on Greek islands and mainland territories against a broad spectrum of modern threats, including ballistic missiles, air attacks, autonomous systems, and cyber threats. Following the council's approval, Israeli defense cooperation officials are expected to travel to Athens to finalize the contracts prepared by Greece's Directorate General for Defense Investments and Armaments.

This significant deal underscores the growing defense ties between Greece and Israel and reflects Greece's strategic efforts to enhance its air and missile defense capabilities amid regional security challenges.
