Greece Plans $3.2 Billion Purchase of Israeli Air Defense Systems for Achilles Shield Network

Greece is expected to approve a major acquisition of Israeli air defense systems valued at approximately 3 billion euros. This purchase will form the core of Greece's new integrated defense network, named "Achilles Shield." The system will combine Israeli Barak MX, David's Sling, and SPYDER missile defense technologies with Greece's existing F-35 and F-16 Viper fighter jets, Belharra frigates, and Patriot missile batteries under a unified command structure.

The integrated defense network is designed to counter a wide range of aerial threats, including aircraft, ballistic missiles, drones, and cruise missiles. This initiative represents one of the largest military strengthening projects undertaken by Greece in recent decades, significantly enhancing its air and missile defense capabilities.
