East Jerusalem Driver Caught Speeding at 166 km/h and Lied About Father's Death

A 23-year-old Arab driver from East Jerusalem was arrested on Saturday night on Route 60 after being caught driving at 166 km/h in a 90 km/h zone. When police attempted to stop him, he tried to flee by driving onto the shoulder but was apprehended shortly after. The driver, who had been banned from driving since May for eight months due to a serious offense involving drunk driving, was also driving without the legally required accompaniment for new drivers. He claimed to the officers that he was rushing because his father had died, but police investigations revealed that his father is still alive. The driver was taken for further investigation by traffic examiners in the Judea district, and a traffic proceeding was opened against him. Following the investigation, he was jailed and his vehicle was administratively impounded for 30 days by a police officer. Police noted that over the past weekend, officers in the Judea region actively targeted severe traffic violations and dangerous driving behaviors, issuing 186 fines, suspending 31 drivers, and impounding 32 vehicles. Of these fines, 46 were for illegal overtaking and lane deviations, and 22 were for using mobile phones while driving.
