England secured a 1-0 victory over Argentina on Wednesday night, thanks to Anthony Gordon's first World Cup goal after 55 tense minutes. Gordon, who had previously provided three assists in the tournament but had not scored, surprised fans and pundits alike by finding the net just as calls for his substitution grew louder. The goal was set up by an impressive pass from Morgan Rogers, who, alongside Gordon, was a surprising selection by England coach Thomas Tuchel over more established Arsenal stars Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke.

Commentators praised the duo's performance, with Rob Dorset highlighting their "amazing football" and Gary Neville calling it "an incredible level." The tactical gamble by Tuchel was widely regarded as a success, with analysts noting that both Rogers and Gordon justified their inclusion. William Bitterby from Sky added that Tuchel anticipated something special from Rogers, which influenced his decision to start him in the match. The victory and Gordon's breakthrough goal have been hailed as a perfect execution of Tuchel's strategy in the 2026 World Cup.
