On July 15, 2026, during a tense World Cup match between England and Argentina, Anthony Gordon scored his first-ever World Cup goal, giving England a 1-0 lead after 55 minutes. Gordon, who had previously provided three assists in the tournament including two against the Democratic Republic of Congo, had not scored until this crucial moment. The goal came after Morgan Rogers delivered a precise assist, a play widely praised by commentators and fans alike.

Both Gordon and Rogers were surprising selections by England coach Thomas Tuchel, who chose them over more established Arsenal stars Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke. This tactical decision was hailed as a success, with analysts noting that Tuchel's gamble had paid off perfectly. Former player Gary Neville described the level of play as "amazing," while Sky Sports' William Bitbiri called Tuchel an "excellent coach" who recognized the potential in Rogers.

The goal and the overall performance sparked excitement in England, with many highlighting Gordon's timely rise after a less impressive tournament start. The match and Tuchel’s strategy have been celebrated as key moments in England’s World Cup campaign so far.
