British Neo-Nazi Plans Mass Attack and Bombing Foiled by MI5 Arrest

Elijah Coleman, a 22-year-old neo-Nazi from Great Notley, Essex, was arrested in 2023 by British intelligence agents (MI5) after attempting to purchase a semi-automatic Makarov pistol, ammunition, and magazines using savings from his part-time supermarket job. Authorities found a collection of knives, a Molotov cocktail, and extremist paraphernalia including a Black Sun flag and Nazi symbols in his home. Coleman had targeted coworkers and former customers with racist slurs and maintained a list of people who "angered" him, including a cashier married to an African American man.

Coleman communicated unknowingly with undercover MI5 agents via encrypted messaging apps for months before his arrest in a Stratford parking lot on September 29, 2023. Investigations revealed he had been radicalized online since age 14 and had plans for mass violence, including attacks on mosques, a possible plane hijacking, and bombing ATMs. Police also discovered secret surveillance equipment and extremist literature in his possession.

During his trial, Coleman admitted to illegal possession of weapons and explosives materials but denied planning terrorism. A jury initially failed to reach a verdict, but he was later convicted of preparing terrorist acts. Judge Richard Marks described him as a "dangerous offender" with "extreme racist views" and sentenced him to 13.5 years in prison plus five years of post-release supervision. Counterterrorism officials emphasized the seriousness of his intent to carry out mass shootings and bombings.
