Jewish Man Sentenced to Prison in UK for Death Threats Against Manchester Mosques

Gabriel Levy, a 21-year-old Jewish man from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, was sentenced to 28 months in prison on Wednesday at Leeds Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to sending death threats to two mosques in Manchester. On October 4, 2025, just two days after a deadly attack at the Heaton Park synagogue in Manchester where two Jewish worshippers were killed, Levy anonymously called the Al-Sunna and Akra mosques. During the calls, he threatened to come to the mosques and kill those present, telling a staff member, "I am going to kill you, Muslim." Investigations revealed that Levy's threats were a reaction to the synagogue attack. Authorities also found Islamophobic and racist material on his mobile phone.

Senior prosecutor Amir Sajjad emphasized the serious impact death threats can have on recipients and stated that hate crimes and Islamophobia are treated with utmost severity by the authorities. The synagogue attack occurred on Yom Kippur at the Heaton Park synagogue in Crumpsall, a suburb of Manchester. The assailant drove into a group of worshippers outside the synagogue around 9:31 a.m. local time, then exited the vehicle and began stabbing Jewish men wearing kippahs. The attacker attempted to enter the synagogue but was stopped by worshippers who barricaded themselves inside. Police killed the attacker six minutes after the attack began.
