Ichilov Hospital Launches Pilot Using Ohad Naharin's Gaga Method for Parkinson's Patients

Ichilov Hospital's Neurology and Movement Research Department has initiated a new pilot program to explore the effects of movement and dance therapy on Parkinson's disease patients. The program collaborates with Ohad Naharin, an acclaimed dancer and choreographer who developed the "Gaga" movement language. Gaga is not merely a dance style but a method for body exploration, strengthening, and imagination development. Naharin previously applied this method to Parkinson's patients in New York and Canada, reporting improvements in their condition.

Following these promising results, Ichilov Hospital reached out to Naharin to implement a similar approach locally. The pilot will involve Parkinson's patients working directly with Naharin using the Gaga method. Researchers will document the outcomes using scientific tools to assess whether this movement language can enhance patients' health and mobility. This initiative represents a novel intersection of art and medical treatment aimed at improving quality of life for those with Parkinson's disease.
