Ichilov Hospital Launches Parkinson’s Study Using Ohad Naharin’s Movement Language

Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv has initiated a new research project examining the effects of movement and dance therapy on Parkinson’s disease patients. The study is conducted in collaboration with Ohad Naharin, an acclaimed dancer and choreographer who received the Israel Prize. Naharin developed the movement language "Gaga," which goes beyond dance to serve as a method for body exploration, strengthening, and imagination enhancement.

Naharin previously applied the Gaga method in therapeutic settings with Parkinson’s patients in New York and Canada, observing improvements in their condition. Upon learning about his approach, Ichilov’s Neurology and Movement Research Department, which specializes in Parkinson’s treatment, reached out to collaborate. The current pilot study will involve Parkinson’s patients working directly with Naharin, with their progress monitored using scientific tools to evaluate potential benefits.

This initiative reflects a growing interest in innovative, non-pharmacological therapies for Parkinson’s disease, aiming to improve patients’ quality of life through physical and cognitive engagement. The research is in its early stages, and results will be closely analyzed to determine the method’s efficacy.
