ISIS Terrorist Who Participated in Beheadings Sentenced to Prison in UK

Mohammed Yasin, a 35-year-old convicted ISIS terrorist involved in beheadings and public floggings in Iraq, is currently on trial in Winchester, UK. Yasin traveled to the UK by small boat after hearing that Britain "welcomes everyone," having previously lived a normal life in Iraq before joining ISIS. He lied about his identity, age, and background to UK immigration officials and was granted asylum accommodation in Basingstoke, Hampshire.

Yasin was previously convicted in Germany for terrorism-related offenses, including membership in ISIS and participation in violent acts, and sentenced to four years and three months in prison. After serving his sentence, instead of being deported to Iraq, he traveled through France to the UK. His boat, carrying about 80 people, was intercepted by British maritime border forces on December 13, 2025. Following biometric checks that revealed his false statements, he was arrested and later admitted to attempting to enter the UK illegally.

At sentencing, Judge Christopher Parker described Yasin as a "significant public risk" and a "danger to the UK," noting that Yasin failed to disclose his 2020 conviction in Germany. The judge sentenced him to two years in prison and indicated a high likelihood of deportation either during or after his sentence. Prosecutor Stephen Molloy emphasized Yasin’s deception and the threat he poses, highlighting his prior conviction and the circumstances of his arrival in the UK.

Yasin’s case underscores challenges in vetting asylum seekers with terrorist backgrounds and the ongoing security concerns related to foreign fighters entering the UK under false pretenses.
