Turkish Man Arrested in UK for Allegedly Funding Hamas Under Humanitarian Cover
Mohammed Youssef Hasana, a 45-year-old Istanbul resident, was arrested in the United Kingdom on suspicion of aiding Hamas by using a senior position in an organization that purported to be humanitarian. According to the US authorities, Hasana exploited his role to transfer funds and supplies to Hamas. The Manhattan federal prosecutor, Jamie McDonald, stated that Hasana worked closely with Hamas leadership, including senior member Razi Hamad, to provide food, money, and other resources disguised as humanitarian aid. Hasana has been held pending extradition proceedings to the United States, where he faces three charges: conspiracy to provide material support to Hamas, conspiracy to finance terrorism, and financing terrorism. Each charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. The US alleges Hasana has been involved in these activities since at least 2023. If extradited, he will be tried in New York for these offenses.
