Hamas Terrorist Involved in October 7 Massacre Arrested and Detained in Israel

An Ashkelon Magistrate's Court has extended the detention of Hassan Huagri, a Hamas military wing operative accused of participating in the October 7 massacre, by 45 days. Huagri was apprehended in Gaza and brought to Israel for interrogation and legal proceedings approximately 18 months after the initial invasion.

He is suspected of multiple severe crimes, including murder with particular cruelty, potentially involving defenseless individuals, murder within a terror organization, armed infiltration, mass terror acts, sexual offenses, kidnapping for murder or extortion, arson intended to harm people, incitement to armed terror, and membership in a terror organization. His alleged offenses also include undergoing training, weapons offenses, and providing services to the terror group.

The court extended his detention due to a reasonable suspicion of the offenses and the risk he poses to the state. Authorities also cited the possibility of him attempting to obstruct the investigation and legal proceedings as reasons for the extended detention. The court ordered that visits from his lawyer would be permitted according to the Israel Prison Service's policy.
