Waze Tests New Feature to Alert Drivers of GPS Disruptions in Israel

Waze is developing a new feature aimed at helping drivers in Israel cope with ongoing GPS disruptions since the start of the war. According to a report by Geektime, the feature is currently being tested among beta users on Android and iOS devices and is available only in Israel at this stage. The system detects inconsistencies in user locations; when Waze identifies many drivers in the same area experiencing erratic or non-continuous location data, it may classify the area as a GPS disruption zone. Drivers then receive a 30-second on-screen alert stating "GPS disruptions in the area," shown only once per trip.

The goal is to prepare drivers in advance, allowing them to anticipate less reliable navigation in affected zones. Beta testers have been asked to provide feedback on the alert’s accuracy and report any GPS disruptions experienced without receiving a warning. This feedback will help Waze refine the system and reduce false alerts. It remains unclear when or if the feature will be rolled out to all users. Given the widespread impact of GPS disruptions on drivers in Israel, this tool could become especially important for daily travel in affected areas.
