Madonna Confronts Stepmother and Ex Sean Penn in New Album Confessions II

Madonna is addressing personal grievances with her stepmother Joan Ciccone and ex-husband Sean Penn in her upcoming album Confessions II, set for release on July 3, 2026. At 67, the singer uses her music to express long-held anger and unresolved issues from her past. Madonna lost her mother to cancer at age five, after which her father Silvio married their housekeeper Joan, who became Madonna's stepmother. Their strained relationship is explored in the song "Betrayal," where Madonna accuses Joan of betrayal and states, "You’ll never take my mother’s place."
