  • Ayelet Hasson's program was canceled after she refused to issue a dictated on-air apology to the IPBC.
  • Political commentator Amit Segal defended Hasson, criticizing the IPBC's demand for a "humiliating apology."
  • Hasson stated her remark about women in the Bedouin community was not racist but an expression of pity.
  • Hasson accused the IPBC of double standards, citing past instances of public slander.
  • The IPBC insisted on a specific on-air apology despite Hasson's prior social media apology.

Journalist Ayelet Hasson will not be broadcasting her program on Kan 11 on Wednesday evening after refusing an ultimatum from the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (IPBC).

Hasson's refusal comes after severe criticism from the IPBC's news division regarding a remark she made on Galei Tzahal radio about women in the Bedouin community. Despite Hasson's public apology on social media and its acceptance by the ethics committee, Kan 11 insisted on a further, broadcast apology in a script they would dictate.

Hasson rejected this demand, stating in a pointed social media post, "Hello my dear viewers, we will not meet on air tonight." Meanwhile, political commentator Amit Segal of Channel 12 News has publicly defended Hasson, launching a sharp attack against the IPBC.

In a post on X, Segal sarcastically congratulated the IPBC for finally finding a flaw in one of its presenters after a decade of "impeccable balance" and "respectful discourse." He accused the broadcaster of demanding a "humiliating apology after humiliating apology" and stated, "Whoever flatters a small cult should ask for their funding from that small cult, not from the public."

Hasson, in an exclusive response to ice.co.il, vehemently denied any racist intent, explaining her remark was about pitying women experiencing polygamy in the context of a discussion on the liberal bloc. She argued that those who respect women and are not racist would understand her meaning. Hasson also pointed to what she described as years of slander against entire communities, including the ultra-Orthodox, and the labeling of terrorists as "freedom fighters," asserting that when it comes to her, "there are always campaigns of incitement against me."
