Fierce protests erupted Tuesday evening in Jerusalem's Bar Ilan Street area against the initial construction of the light rail.

Extremist protesters laid mattresses in the middle of the road and lay on them, blocking traffic and demonstrating against the light rail. Clashes broke out between the protesters and police forces who were called to the scene. Jerusalem District Police, Yassam and Magav officers worked to disperse the demonstrators and reopen the blocked roads.

The police stated that the protest escalated into a public disturbance, during which protesters blocked roads and disrupted daily life in the area.
