Haifa's Rambam Hospital is set to significantly expand its capacity, with plans to double its number of beds from 976 to 1,875. The local planning and building committee has approved the ambitious project, which will also include new clinics, laboratories, research institutes, and training centers. The expansion is driven by the hospital's role as a major medical facility serving the entire northern region of Israel.

The project will utilize additional land, including areas west of Bat Galim, by redeveloping old residential zones, bringing the total site area to 101 dunams. Designed by Kolker Kolker Epstein architects, the expansion involves constructing several 11-story buildings and a 20-story research center, totaling approximately 530,000 square meters of built space. A new underground entrance on Hel HaYam street is planned to ease traffic congestion, along with an additional rooftop helipad.

Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav emphasized the hospital's strategic importance, stating, "Rambam is much more than just a hospital; it is a strategically important facility for Haifa, the North, and the entire State of Israel. It is one of the most important, advanced, and innovative medical centers in Israel. Its importance is evident daily, and especially during emergencies, as it is on the front line of medical care, saving lives."
