FIFA has imposed a one-year transfer ban and a 350,000 euro fine on Israeli football club Hapoel Haifa due to a dispute over the transfer of player Ofek Biton. The club plans to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, arguing they only contacted Biton after his contract expired. The Ukrainian club Polissya Zhytomyr had accused Hapoel Haifa of inducing Biton to breach his contract.

  • FIFA imposed a one-year transfer ban on Hapoel Haifa and a 350,000 euro fine.
  • The ban is due to a dispute over the transfer of player Ofek Biton from Polissya Zhytomyr.
  • Hapoel Haifa plans to appeal the FIFA decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
  • The club claims they approached Biton only after his contract expired.
  • CEO Itay Rak expressed confidence the appeal would overturn the decision.

Hapoel Haifa has been handed a significant penalty by FIFA, which has imposed a one-year transfer ban on the club. This decision stems from a dispute concerning the transfer of player Ofek Biton from the Ukrainian club Polissya Zhytomyr. In addition to the ban, FIFA has ordered Hapoel Haifa to pay 350,000 euros in compensation to Polissya Zhytomyr.

The club has announced its intention to appeal the ruling to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). "We filed an appeal a few days ago, and we estimate that within a few days the decision will be overturned," stated Hapoel Haifa CEO Itay Rak.

Polissya Zhytomyr accused Hapoel Haifa of inducing Biton to break his contract to facilitate his move. FIFA accepted these claims, leading to the sanctions against the Israeli club.

Hapoel Haifa's defense centers on the claim that they only approached Biton after his contract with Polissya Zhytomyr had expired. They also assert that Biton signed a clause releasing him from any obligations, with any associated costs to be borne solely by him. The club argues that the burden of proof lies with the Ukrainian team and that the dispute is essentially between Polissya and Biton, with Hapoel Haifa being inadvertently drawn into the matter.
