Israel's Ministry of Health announced Tuesday that two individuals who recently returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo are suspected of having contracted Ebola. Both developed fevers after their return. One of the individuals is being transferred to Sheba Medical Center, while the other is going to Ichilov Hospital. Both will be treated under isolation conditions. The ministry stressed that these are only suspicions at this stage and that no confirmed cases of the disease have been diagnosed in Israel. An epidemiological investigation has been launched to identify anyone who may have come into contact with the suspected patients. Individuals not contacted by the ministry are not required to take any action. Ebola is transmitted through direct contact with an symptomatic patient, infected bodily fluids, or contaminated objects. The Ministry of Health is urging anyone who has returned from Congo and developed a fever above 38 degrees Celsius or other unusual symptoms within 21 days to remain home, avoid contact with others, and call the Health Call Center at *5400 before seeking medical attention. The ministry also advises against travel to Ebola-affected areas in Congo and non-essential travel to other countries in the region.
